According to research from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States, women who earn more than their partners are more likely to experience depressive symptoms.

The psychological well-being of mothers and fathers can suffer when work and family identity – and the financial support they provide – conflict with traditional gender roles.
Researchers found that when women’s wages increased to offset most of their family’s income, these women reported many symptoms of depression.

Researchers Karen Kramer and Sunjin Pak also found an opposite effect in men: psychological well-being parents have improved over time when they became the main income for their families.

Research was performed on more than 1463 men and 1799 women, and the majority was born between 1957 and 1965. The psychological well-being of participants was measured in 1991 and 1994 using a seven-point scale that assessed their levels of depressive symptoms .

The results suggest that although the psychological well-being of women was not affected by the release of the workforce to become mothers who stay at home, men’s mental health was rejected when they stayed at home to care to the kids.

“We observed a statistically significant and substantial difference in depressive symptoms in the men and women in our study,” Kramer said.

The researchers compared cholesterol levels in 48 people aged 30 to 65 years with high levels of “bad” or LDL cholesterol in two six-week periods.

Study participants were the identical regimens throughout the trial period, plus some received 43g whole unsalted almonds with skin and another banana butter butter eating every day.

Blood samples were taken to determine participants’ cholesterol levels at baseline and after six weeks.

Increases good cholesterol by 19%
The results reveal that eating a handful of almonds a day significantly improves the good cholesterol people.

Previous research shows an increase in good cholesterol reduces the risk of heart disease to a person.
Almonds also increase overall health by being a good source of healthy fats, vitamin E and fiber.

Professor Kris-Etherton added: “If people incorporate almonds into their diet, they should expect various benefits, including those that can improve heart health.

“They are not a cure, but when consumed in moderation – especially when eaten instead of a food of lower nutritional value – they are a great addition to a healthy diet already.”
